Europe Day – May 9
Europe Day, which takes place on May 9 every year, celebrates peace and unity in Europe.
That date marks the anniversary of the historic "Schuman Declaration", his idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe, according to which war between European nations would be unthinkable.
Schuman's proposal is considered the beginning of today's European Union.
